The DPS of a hotel in Blackpool was reported to have been hit pretty hard by Magistrates for two occasions when undercover Officers had managed to purchase alcohol at a time when only hotel guests should have been able to do so. On one occasion they had a 15 year old girl with them as well, so there was the additional ignominy of an underage sale.

Reports suggest that the DPS did not attend Court and was sentenced in her absence. I would imagine that she at least wrote in or had a Solicitor do so on her behalf. That having been said, I would always suggest that it’s a good idea to actually attend in person and look like you are taking it seriously. She seems to have paid the price being ordered to pay £10,000 in respect of the two breaches of licence. She was additionally fined £350 for the underage sale.

It is obviously a good idea to seek legal advice when faced with these sorts of problems. At the very least your Solicitor can remind you of the importance of attending Court in person!
